The Flip Book Film Festival is one program of SFSU’s fall 2021 curated film programs. This festival program is designed to shine a light on sketched animations of past SFSU filmmakers. Featuring animation at its best and most basic form.
Mr. Swing (1993)
Mr. Swing is a story of a performer who has bitten off more than he can chew.
“Producer and Director, Mark Hamer has 25 years of experience as an Animator, Artist, and Art Director in the video game industry, with nearly twenty titles shipped. His work can be seen in classic games such as Psychonauts, Brutal Legend, and Grim Fandango, all three of which were selected for inclusion in the Smithsonian’s 2012 exhibit “The Art of Video Games.” In 2018, he was the Art Director for an

Pull My Finger (1993)
Traditional pencil-drawn character animation of bored gerbils killing time. This film premiered in SFSU Film Finals in 1993. Also, this short was shown in Mike & Spikes Film Sick & Twisted Festival of Animation and MTV Cartoon Sushi. Director, Jay Hathaway is also known for Behind the Line, which was his Master’s Thesis project at SFSU and was featured in film Finals in 1996. However, since it was CG, on video, and was not physically on film, it was not part of the Film Final release bundle that toured the country.

The Masterdisc (1992)
A man tells about when he was a young boy and had problems with his hearing due to an excess of earwax. He would listen to his own heartbeat while falling asleep, which sounded like “Hup, two, three. Hup, two, three.” He would then dream of the Hup-Two-Three Man chasing him. Luckily the boy also dreamt of a protector. The Masterdisc. Director, Lawrence Tucky McKey Jr. graduated from San Francisco State University in 1993 with a BFA in Film Animation. He also received a BFA in Illustration in 2002 from the Academy of Art University. Currently, he is an experienced Illustrator with a demonstrated history of working in the events services industry. Skilled in Visual Arts, Painting, Entertainment, Art, and Drawing.
